About
Since 2000 I work at the department of philosohy at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, where I teach Metaethics and Moral Psychology.
I obtained my Phd at Utrecht University (financed by the Dutch Organisation of Scientific Research) from Utrecht University. The subject matter of my thesis was moral responsibility and free will. A few years later, I rewrote this thesis and published it under the title: Justifying Blame. Why Free Will matters and Why it Does not (Rodopi, 2005). The last couple years my focus shifted a bit from metaethics and philosophy of action, to the developments in the behavioral, cognitive, and neuroscience and the implications of these developments for our concept of moral agency, reasons, free will, and personal responsibility. In 2008 I handed in a research proposal on this topic and was awarded a VIDI research-grant, again from the Dutch Organisation of Scientific Research. This grant allowed me to start a small researchgroup which will be working on 'Conscious Control, Deliberative Awareness, and Moral Agency' (2009-2012).
